Job Overview

As Associate Counsel, you will research and interpret laws, prepare legal documents, and represent GEICO in various legal proceedings. You will play a key role in supporting the Claims Department, ensuring effective legal strategies and high standards of compliance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Research laws and prepare legal briefs, opinions, and memoranda.
  • Render opinions on liability, damages, and value for the Claims Department.
  • Draft and manage pleadings, motions, and discovery, including depositions and examinations under oath.
  • Defend cases at trial or dispositive hearings as assigned.
  • Document case files clearly and professionally for diverse audiences.
  • Travel as required for trials, hearings, depositions, and meetings.
Required Skills & Qualifications
  • 2–6+ years of insurance defense and/or personal injury litigation experience.
  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree required.
  • Admission to the New York Bar and good standing to practice law in NY.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and resolve conflicts effectively.
  • Meet and maintain CLE and licensing requirements.
  • Proficiency in documenting legal files in a clear, concise manner.
