Demandbase is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to lead the design, architecture, and delivery of cutting-edge, scalable systems within our AI-powered account-based go-to-market platform. This fully remote, permanent position is ideal for experienced Staff or Principal Engineers passionate about technical leadership, architectural excellence, and mentorship, who thrive in complex, high-impact environments. Job Overview

Serve as a technical leader guiding system architecture and design across multiple engineering teams.
Collaborate with Engineering and Product Managers to translate product vision into actionable technical strategies.
Drive the integration of generative and agentic AI capabilities into our platform.
Mentor engineers and champion modern engineering practices for quality and scalability.
Work closely with cross-functional teams in a remote-first, inclusive environment.

Key Responsibilities

Drive technical direction and architectural decisions for scalable microservices and distributed systems.
Participate in design reviews, code reviews, and incident retrospectives to ensure high-quality delivery.
Partner with engineering leadership to align technical initiatives with business goals.
Promote and implement best practices in CI/CD, test automation, and cloud-native deployment.
Support the professional growth of engineers through mentorship and feedback.

Required Skills & Qualifications

10+ years of professional software engineering experience, with 2–3+ years in a Staff or Principal Engineer role.
Proven success delivering distributed systems or cloud-native platforms at scale.
Proficiency in at least one backend language (Java, Scala, or Python preferred).
Hands-on experience with modern CI/CD pipelines, Kubernetes, and cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
Strong knowledge of system design, architectural trade-offs, and performance optimization.
Familiarity with AI-driven development tools and their integration into engineering workflows.
Excellent communication skills with experience mentoring engineers and fostering collaboration.
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent real-world experience.
Background in agile development methodologies (Scrum, Kanban, SAFe, etc.).
