Job Overview

As a Software Engineer - L3 Support, you will work remotely with distributed teams to troubleshoot, resolve, and improve critical issues in the open source ecosystem. Your expertise will impact enterprise customers, partners, and the broader Ubuntu community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Diagnose and resolve complex customer issues related to Ubuntu, Kernel, OpenStack, Kubernetes, and other open source software.
  • Develop bug fixes and backport patches, collaborating with upstream communities for inclusion.
  • Maintain close working relationships with Field, Support, and Product Engineering teams.
  • Review code produced by other engineers and provide guidance as needed.
  • Participate in team discussions to improve processes, tools, and documentation.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Travel internationally up to 10% for team meetings, events, and conferences.
Required Skills & Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, STEM, or equivalent experience.
  • Exceptional academic track record.
  • Proficiency with Linux and open source software.
  • Experience with at least one programming language: Python, Go, C, or C++.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work across the full technology stack, including kernel-level debugging.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Self-motivated, enterprising, and passionate about technology.
  • Willingness to travel for team events up to four times a year.
  • Interest in learning new technologies including Ubuntu, Kubernetes, OpenStack, Ceph, and distributed systems.
