Join Canonical as a Technical Author to help set industry standards for technical documentation and practice. In this fully remote role, you will collaborate with engineering, business, and operations teams to create, maintain, and elevate documentation quality. With opportunities available at all levels, you will contribute to open-source projects and shape documentation excellence across the company.

Key Responsibilities

Create, maintain, and improve software and business documentation for Canonical products and internal operations.
Collaborate with team members to guide effective documentation contributions and influence product design.
Engage with user communities to ensure documentation meets their needs and encourages community contribution.
Help standardise documentation structure, presentation, style, and language across products and teams.
Advance documentation theory and best practices within Canonical and the open-source community.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Excellent written communication and collaboration skills.
Technical writing expertise, with programming experience or mindset.
Familiarity with Linux, command line, Git, and documentation markup languages (reStructuredText, MyST).
Demonstrable documentation skills, insight, and enthusiasm for software technology.
BSc/BA degree or equivalent experience.
Record of community engagement in open-source, documentation, research, or related disciplines.
Ability to travel globally twice a year for company events.
Technical curiosity and understanding of user experience, interaction, or visual design.
Experience working in software development contexts.
Sympathy for open-source software challenges and communities.
