Join Canonical as a Community Engineer and help set a global standard of excellence in open source community management. This fully remote role offers the opportunity to design, execute, and scale initiatives that nurture the Ubuntu and wider open source ecosystem. You will work collaboratively with developers, technical teams, and community leaders to facilitate efficient processes, support volunteer contributors, and promote sustainable community growth. Multiple positions and seniority levels are available.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, lead, and scale community initiatives that foster growth and engagement.
  • Collaborate with developers, product managers, and external partners to integrate community plans with Canonical’s objectives.
  • Support and engage volunteer developers, addressing their concerns and enabling successful project outcomes.
  • Produce high-quality content (blog posts, social media, event updates) to promote and inform about community activities.
  • Represent Ubuntu and Canonical at conferences, expos, and public speaking events.
Required Skills & Qualifications
  • Passion for open source software, Linux, and community building.
  • Experience with developer tools, open source projects, and technical program management.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Clear record of public contributions (talks, blogs, GitHub, social media).
  • Ability to work autonomously and adapt to a fast-paced, distributed environment.
  • Experience with community management or developer advocacy.
  • Knowledge of Ubuntu Linux, DevOps, software development, container technology, and QA.
  • Engagement with open source communities and understanding of volunteer contributor workflows.
  • Flexibility for global travel (2–4 weeks/year) and virtual collaboration.
  • Commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equal opportunity in the workplace.
