The Wikimedia Foundation is seeking a Lead UX Designer to join our remote-first Product Design team. You will lead user experience initiatives for the Wikipedia iOS app and select Android features, driving innovation for one of the world’s most impactful platforms. Collaborating with cross-functional teams, you will simplify complex challenges to create delightful, accessible experiences for a global audience.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the end-to-end UX process for the Wikipedia iOS app and related Android features.
Reduce complexity to deliver simple, engaging, and accessible product experiences.
Create prototypes, conduct experiments, and iteratively test design hypotheses.
Apply and evolve design systems and Human Interface Guidelines.
Collaborate with designers, product managers, and engineers to develop and refine product strategies.
Mentor team members and foster a culture of knowledge sharing and feedback.
Engage with global communities to distill concepts into approachable communication points.

Required Skills & Qualifications

5+ years of experience designing native mobile apps (iOS/Android).
8+ years of experience on design teams.
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, or equivalent relevant experience.
Expertise in UX design, including accessibility and mobile Human Interface Guidelines.
Proficiency in prototyping and user research methods (evaluative and generative).
Demonstrated ability to mentor and influence cross-functional teams.
Experience with internationalization/localization and designing for diverse audiences.
Strong storytelling skills to persuade and align stakeholders.
Background in content consumption, publishing, education, or news is a plus.
Availability for synchronous work between 2:00 PM and 7:00 PM UTC.
