Linux Operations Engineer

Join Canonical as a Linux Operations Engineer, working remotely with a global team to sustain and optimize enterprise-scale software-defined infrastructure. This role offers exposure to the full open source stack, including bare metal, virtualization, containerization, storage, networking, and cloud orchestration. You will be the final escalation point for complex technical issues, collaborating across teams and upstream communities to deliver robust solutions for Ubuntu, OpenStack, Ceph, Kubernetes, and more.

Key Responsibilities

• Resolve complex customer problems across Ubuntu, OpenStack, Ceph, and Kubernetes.
• Serve as final escalation for operational troubleshooting and drive issues to resolution.
• Debug, propose workarounds, and coordinate patch production with software engineers.
• Maintain concise technical communication and documentation.
• Participate in upstream communities and improve internal processes and tools.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Advanced troubleshooting experience with Linux and open source stacks.
• Strong programming skills in Python, Go, C, or C++ on Linux.
• Proficiency with debugging tools (gdb, pdb, tcpdump).
• Familiarity with virtualization (KVM), containerization (LXC/LXD, Docker), and cloud platforms (OpenStack, Kubernetes).
• Experience with Ceph, distributed systems, and source control (git).
• Exceptional academic background in Computer Science, STEM, or related fields.
• Excellent communication, time management, and judgment.
• Willingness to travel up to 4 times per year for internal events.
