Job Overview

As a Community Engineer, you will facilitate, nurture, and scale the Ubuntu community. You will bridge Canonical teams and open source contributors, supporting collaboration, technical projects, and community initiatives. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring the success, autonomy, and sustainability of Ubuntu community projects through technical and organizational support.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, execute, and scale initiatives to foster an engaged and thriving community.
  • Collaborate with developers, product managers, and external partners to integrate community and Canonical plans.
  • Support and engage volunteer developers, addressing concerns and helping them create successful tools.
  • Produce high-quality content (blogs, social media) to promote community initiatives and accomplishments.
  • Represent Ubuntu and Canonical at conferences, events, and via online engagement (Discourse, Matrix, etc.).
Required Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience in open source community management and developer advocacy.
  • Technical proficiency in Linux, DevOps, software development, or related fields.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven record of open source contributions (talks, blogs, GitHub, etc.).
  • Ability to work autonomously in a distributed, fast-paced environment.
  • Interest and experience with Ubuntu, container technologies, package management, and QA/testing.
  • Flexibility to travel for events and conferences globally (2-4 weeks/year, with more possible).
  • Self-motivated, enterprising, and committed to excellence in community engagement.
