Smartsheet is seeking a Sr. Manager, Engineering to lead our Solution Experiences pillar. This fully remote role is ideal for a hands-on leader who can guide multiple software engineering teams in developing and scaling innovative, AI-powered enterprise solutions. You will drive technical vision, ensure efficient project delivery, and foster a culture of excellence and growth across distributed teams.

Job Overview

As a Sr. Manager, Engineering, you will oversee teams building high-impact, customer-facing cloud applications and AI/ML features. You will mentor engineers and managers, collaborate with product and business stakeholders, and play a critical role in hiring and developing top talent. Your leadership will be key in shaping technical strategy and driving cross-team initiatives in a modern work management platform.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and mentor multiple engineering teams (8-12+ members each) focused on product areas or emerging pillars.
Guide architectural decisions and best practices, and review project designs for efficiency and effectiveness.
Plan and deliver complex, cross-team projects with high technical ambiguity.
Foster strong partnerships with product management and other business areas.
Drive AI adoption in software and product development lifecycles.
Coach and develop engineers and managers, identifying and nurturing future leaders.
Hire exceptional engineering talent and scale teams strategically.
Set and track yearly and quarterly technical and operational goals.
Establish repeatable processes to measure and improve team efficiency.
Communicate effectively with executives and non-technical stakeholders.

Required Skills & Qualifications

10+ years of software development experience, with at least 4 years in management roles.
Proven experience in building and deploying AI/ML features, especially for search and NLP applications.
Hands-on expertise with Vector Search, semantic search, and productionizing ML models at scale.
Background in building scalable, high-availability customer-facing cloud applications.
Experience managing or building full stack teams is a plus.
Familiarity with OpenSearch, Elasticsearch, or Solr.
Knowledge of Agile/Scrum methodologies.
Experience with AWS or other major cloud platforms.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
Eligibility to work in the United States on an ongoing basis.
