Ubuntu Security Engineer

Job Overview

• Contribute to the security and integrity of the Ubuntu ecosystem and open source community.
• Work remotely within a highly collaborative, distributed team spanning 75+ countries.
• Engage in engineering-focused security work across public cloud, AI, IoT, and enterprise solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze, fix, and test vulnerabilities in open source packages.
• Track and document vulnerabilities using internal tools and processes.
• Collaborate with upstream developers, internal teams, and external partners on vulnerability remediation.
• Conduct security assessments, code reviews, and audits of source code.
• Develop internal tools and features to enhance security for Ubuntu and its community.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Deep understanding of common security vulnerabilities and remediation techniques.
• Proficiency in one or more languages: C, Python, Go, Rust, Java, Ruby, PHP, JavaScript/TypeScript.
• Familiarity with Linux environments (Debian or Ubuntu preferred).
• Experience with open source development tools and methodologies.
• Excellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
• Ability to work independently in a remote, multicultural, and distributed environment.
• Willingness to travel internationally at least twice a year.
