Linux Software Support Engineer

Key Responsibilities

• Resolve complex customer issues related to Ubuntu, Kernel, Ceph, OpenStack, Kubernetes, and other open source software.
• Collaborate closely with Canonical's Field, Support, and Product Engineering teams to address technical challenges.
• Develop bug fixes, backport patches, and contribute to upstream open source communities.
• Review code produced by other engineers and maintain clear, concise technical documentation.
• Participate in team discussions to improve processes, tools, and documentation; travel internationally up to 10% for team meetings and events.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Exceptional academic track record in Computer Science, STEM, or related fields.
• Strong experience with Linux and open source software.
• Proficiency in at least one of Python, Go, C, or C++ on Linux.
• Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex engineering issues across various layers of the software stack.
• Excellent communication, time management, and problem-solving skills.
• Curiosity, flexibility, accountability, and a passion for learning new technologies.
• Willingness to travel internationally up to four times a year for team events.
• Interest or willingness to learn technologies such as Kubernetes, OpenStack, Ceph, QEMU/KVM, LXC/LXD, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Debian packaging, and distributed systems.
