Business Process Monitoring

The Business Process Monitoring app in SAP Cloud ALM for operations supports the detect-to-correct lifecycle of SAP Cloud solutions along the end-to-end processes of the Intelligent Suite.

Business process monitoring aims to provide transparency about the end-to-end process health based on predefined key performance indicators (KPIs). It enables both line-of-business users and IT users to directly identify business process disruptions across the entire system landscape, and to react to anomalies before critical situations arise.

The objective of this app is to ensure smooth business operations without disruptions, and to increase the quality and performance of the business process execution.

Objectives

Business Process Monitoring (BPMon), as part of SAP Cloud ALM for operations, provides transparency over the end-to-end processes of the entire Intelligent Suite.

BPMon monitors the processes' health and detects anomalies during process execution and enables both LOB and IT users to directly identify process disruptions and react to them:

  • Identify business disruptions and exceptions in process execution based on pre-defined key performance indicators (KPIs)
  • Identify technical issues which have direct impact on mission critical processes with technical monitoring

This ensures smooth business operations without disruptions and increases the business process execution quality and performance.

Scope

  • Offer transparency into end-to-end processes based on predefined business process KPIs
  • Provide out-of-the box real-time monitoring across the entire Intelligent Suite
  • Reduce implementation effort by auto-discovery of relevant business process KPIs
  • Receive automatic alerts and provide automated corrective actions
  • Enrich operational business process information with application monitoring information
  • Predict business process anomalies before business is impacted
  • Process information will be retrieved from SAP Cloud ALM for implementation
  • Continuous development of further business process KPIs based on APIs provided by SAP Cloud Applications

Business Process Monitoring - Setup of SAP SuccessFactors

Prerequisites

To configure the integration of SAP SuccessFactors into the Business Process Monitoring app in SAP Cloud ALM, you need to fulfill the following prerequisites

  • A user in SAP SuccessFactors for the OData integration
    • Further information on the required user settings and authorizations can be found here
  • SAP SuccessFactors service has been successfully added to the SAP Cloud ALM Landscape Management

Setup Steps in SAP Cloud ALM

You can create the HTTP endpoint in the Landscape Management app by following these steps:

  1. Open the Landscape Management application from the launchpad.
  2. Select your SAP SuccessFactors service of Service Type SAP SuccessFactors HXM Suite.
  3. Choose the Name of the Cloud Service.
  4. Open the Properties tab and note down the data center name*
    • To find the data center your tenant is located in please follow SAP Note 2776694 - How can SuccessFactors end users find the datacenter where the instance is located
  5. On the tab Endpoints, choose the Add button to create a new endpoint.
  6. Enter a description, e.g. Endpoint for Business Process Monitoring.
  7. Choose the use case Business Process Monitoring.
  8. Adjust the root URL: Enter the production system API URL for your data center
    • You can find the URL in SAP Note 2215682 - SuccessFactors API URLs for different data centers.
  9. Select the authentication method BASIC and enter the following parameters:
    • User: <user>@<companyID>
    • Password: The password for the user

  10. Choose Save.
  11. After the successful activation, the data collection will start, and the SAP SuccessFactors tenant will appear in the Configuration pane in the Business Process Monitoring application.

Business Process Monitoring Setup & Configuration

On this page you can find details on prerequisites, setup, housekeeping, and customer support details for Business Process Monitoring in SAP Cloud Application Lifecycle Management for operations.

Prerequisites

Before you can monitor your processes with Business Process Monitoring in SAP Cloud Application Lifecycle Management, you have to connect your subscribed SAP cloud services to your SAP Cloud ALM instance.

For SAP S/4HANA and SAP Business Suite you need ST-A/PI version > 01U_731.

Please follow the Enabling SAP Cloud ALM APIs guide in SAP Help  to retrieve your API keys (Clientid and Secret) and Host Name which you will need during the configuration.

Setup

To setup Business Process Monitoring please follow the monitoring setup guide:

  • SAP S/4HANA Public Cloud Edition

  • SAP S/4HANA Private Cloud Edition

  • SAP S/4HANA On-Premise Edition

  • SAP SuccessFactors

  • SAP Business Suite

Housekeeping

As a Process Monitoring Administrator , you can now manage the retention time of single business documents and aggregated data as follows:

  • Retention Time (days) for Single Executions : Defines the time period for which data is retained for single executions (detailed business documents) for throughput KPIs.

    Enter a value between 1 and 30 that is up to half as high as the retention time of aggregated data.
  • Retention Time (days) for Aggregated Executions : Defines the time period for which data is retained in the aggregated data history. Once the retention time for aggregated executions has passed, the data is deleted.

    Enter a value between 2 and 365 that is at least twice as high as the retention time of raw data.

The specified retention times are valid for all monitored systems and services.


Be aware that SAP provides you in fair usage concept 8 GB HANA memory per month. If you extend the given memory you might need to subscribe additional memory blocks with our BTP service SAP Cloud ALM memory extension.
